Oktoberfest at the Lake: Pull Up a Chair, Pass the Schnitzel
The leaves along Ahmic Lake in Magnetawan are turning red and gold, there’s a chill in the evening air, and at Ahmic Lake Resort that means it’s time for Oktoberfest. From October 8 to 17, 2026, the Swiss Country House Restaurant is celebrating the season with a hearty, Bavarian-inspired menu.
A Little Oktoberfest History
Oktoberfest started in Munich in 1810 as a celebration of a royal wedding. It grew into the world’s best-known festival of beer, food, and good company. Ontario has its own strong tradition too, with communities across the province marking the season every fall. In Almaguin Highlands cottage country, we celebrate it our way: lakeside, cozy and with plates piled high.
The Oktoberfest Platter
The centerpiece of the celebration is our Oktoberfest Platter, built for big fall appetites:
- Golden schnitzel. Our signature dish, and the one guests drive across the Highlands.
- Grilled sausage, served with tangy mustard.
- Potato salad or spätzle. Your choice of the classic or the soft, buttery German dumplings.
- Braised red cabbage. Sweet, tangy and slow-cooked the traditional way.
Just for You: $29.95 | Better With Company (for 2): $52.95
Finish Sweet, Raise a Glass
Leave room for our warm Apple Strudel ($8.00): flaky pastry, spiced apples and a dusting of powdered sugar. To toast the season, share a Pitcher of Draft ($26.00) with your table. It’s a great excuse to bring friends, family or the neighbours from down the lake.
Make a Fall Getaway of It
Why drive home after a big dinner when you can stay? October is one of the most beautiful times of year at Ahmic Lake. Our 70-acre property has 2,400 feet of waterfront, with a river, rapids and dam right on site. Fall days are made for:
- Walking among the fall colours and spotting wildlife along the shoreline
- Fishing for pike, bass and pickerel in the cool autumn water
- Exploring the communities and trails of the Almaguin Highlands
- Curling up beside a wood-burning fireplace in one of our cottages
Our 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom cottages and the 5-bedroom Lakeview House have fully equipped kitchens, free Wi-Fi and plenty of room to relax. Many of our cottages are pet-friendly, so the family dog can come too.
Insider tip: add our restaurant credit to your cottage rental and get $50 of food for just $30. That just covers most of an Oktoberfest dinner for two.
